The Police tricked by the movie industry to close Piratbyån

Today the police had a raid against the Pirate Bay. The worlds largest Bittorent- tracker. For several years, the page has been a world central for people interested in culture from countries all over the world. Everything from home made essays to obscure japanese music to videos of the schlager finalie has been shared with the technique.

On the servers, no illegal material has been stored. The torrent-files, links as people use to get connected and to download the desired material is containing text, that is certainly not protected by the copyright laws.

”Antipiratbyrån has obviusly mislead the police in this case” said Tobias Andersson from Piratbyrån. ”They seem to have told the incompetent police that the servers in question is filled with copyright protected material, this is a huge misuse of the tax payers money.”

At the meantime, a number of web pages located on neighboring server been confiscated. Here lies the biggest mistake from the Swedish police.

The “Antipitarbyrån” has apparently tricked the police to simultaneously close down the site “pitratbyrån”.

“Piratbyrån" Has been lobbying for an open debate regarding copywriting and patent matters. We are very upset over that the movie industry does not dare take the debate, but instead tries to fool politicians and police into criminalize a large portion of the Swedish population.

Practically, ofcourse, this means really nothing for all the file sharing people around the world. There is literally thousands of other sites where you can get what you are after. People just change location.

File sharing works like a Hydra, if you cut one head off, two more grows out!

The Piratebay started at the summer of 2003 to highlight copy right questions. The pirate bay means that copy writing in many cases has played out its role and instead of protecting artists, really prohibits creativity and only “feeds” a few.

Since the start over 60 000 members has signed up on the web page where they discuss in forums and trades tips. The Piratebay has also held sessions with the Swedish government, running campaigns and has started the worlds biggest bittorrent-tracker, ThePirateBay.org

Swedish police are censoring political websites:

What we really need to be focusing on is this: Who is next?

WE ARE. You, me, us and them. All the millions and probably billions of users worldwide who make TPB and all other torrent and P2P sites/software so popular. Who do you think the movie and music or software companies plan to "recover" their years of profit loss from?
It is consceivable to assume these corporations are interested in the names and locations of most likely billions of dollars worth of lawsuits. In other words, our IP addresses from OUR internet providers, after they access and record TPB's world-wide network of traffic.
Let's face it, we are stealing from them.

Hopefully, this technology will be regarded as the modern day "VCR"

However, with a VCR, you still had to wait for the movie to make it's money, which most certainly IS the driving force behind this shit-tornado that is forming over Sweden. Local forecast : cloudy with a chance of shit.

Bad luck guys, but shitforecast for the coming weeks is shit with some openings to come.

But to ease up on the downfall and to be able to buy some new umbrellas, put some Google, Chitika, Adbrite ads on your sites.

I will support you thru them. :-)

I think there is no need for any other money collecting, atleast we know the money goes to you guys directly.

This is clearly an attempt at censorship by the MPAA, who are again showing their complete inability to engage in a public debate, proving them to be, as always, a profit hoarding organisation. They are such hypocrites, tPB hasnt been shown to break any Swedish law, but the MPAA has - just look at the litigation against them by Torrentspy for hacking.

2:03 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I hope TPB's legal advisers are right and can prove they are.

TPB fights for modification of the copyright laws, which are -almost- dictated by movie and record indutries. These industries would like to put people in jail for downloading - a.k.a. sharing. These industries representatives call downloaders/iploaders criminals .
They may win battles, but it relies on us, users, citizen, to act to prevent them from winning the war, and setting a cultural and commercial diktat. And TPB is one of the main of thousands activists who do not surrender to these threats.

"Let's face it, we are stealing from them"

No we are not..in case of a DVDrip (or CD, e-book, softw. etc.) which is usual you are not stealing. You paid a price once, and then you permit whoever you want to get it at bandwidth cost.

This is called sharing . You don't make any money from their items. That would be stealing.

Who are the deputy member working for ? The people..and who are the majority of the people? Music, movie or software producers? I don't think so. The copyright war exists since dozen and dozen of years (100 years ago -in the US at least- it was around 17 years. Now it is...70 (!) Those interested, check the Disney story, US Congress voted an extension of the copyrights just before main characters and movies created by Disney went to the public domain --> working for very particular interest..democracy ? ). And the ones getting the advantages of these laws are a minority.

Let's face it. Producers make most of the money. And why does cd's, dvd's cost generally between 15 and 25 € ? Because the main point for selling an item is promotion. Advertising. This is the shit who plagues culture "creation". What sells most is not necessarily the "best", but the most advertised. The internet and its information freeway shortcuts this business model.

With internet, only the best survives, or sell. Being "good" or the "best" is certainly more difficult than putting a lot of money into a marketing plan where results are generally expectable (There are always counter examples..but these are exceptions). And fair prices are a consumer utopia. Prices put are the maximum prices a buyer will want to pay to get these items.

Piracy is Democracy - It is not stealing nor economic terrorism..it is sharing, and sharing should be and remain forever a human right. When an item's price is fair, it will sell anyway, even if you can get it for free. When you like and enjoy it, you will want to reward the author, and internet permits this. Internet shortcuts the promotion-advertising (radio, tv, boards, everything) process. So those who put a lot of money into this don't really like it. Internet promotion is very cheap. But much more difficult.

Do not forget this. These people should not have such power. They are shortcuting democracy by -almost- putting in places laws throughout the world that favor their business models.

V for Vendetta - Sharing is not a crime, it is a right.

Thank you for the English translation so those outside Sweden can know what is happening.
The only way the film/record companies can defeat pirates is to drop the price of CD/DVD to a reasonable cost (approx €5 / $5) rather than ripping us off.

Hello, i just thought that you should remember that american corporations have alot of power worldwide. A nice example of this is something that happened in mexico some months ago. The Sheraton hotel denied the room to a group of visiting cubans, alegating the law implicated against them in the united states. The Mexico city government closed down the hotel and that threw some really big sparks in the international arena. They opened it up, but look at this, the americans declared that they will force their law worldwide.

I was rereading Orwell's 1984 today, and some commentaries by the author of Babylon 5, MJS, on the modern social vulnerability to dictatorial regimes... As well, editing some podcast from interviews by the Albany, NY, Humanist Society regarding the political power of the" Christian Reich" in the United States (Pat Robertson/GWB etc)... and then this news. This not Justice, this is Law - and newspeak/doublethink are alive and well. Justice may need philosophers to be defines, Law bends easily to the will of the powers-that-be, and to suit whatever is the agenda of the day. Welcome to the New World Order.
